Actually I d prepared myself to be disappointed last night for Z-1470 Totally Gospel s Over the Rainbow Thanksgiving Capital Campaign Gospel Concert. Why? We had no time.

The event was created with only 12-days notice to the community at large, and virtually no financial support to help us stage it. Even as our publicity machine rolled into action it wasn t in full gear until just three days before the event. We estimated the odds for a huge turnout were not in our favor.

That assessment was wrong. Our listeners filled New Salem Baptist Church last night as gospel groups, quartets and soloists raised thier voices in praise. It s like a jam session, exclaimed one observer as one performance melded into another, held together by emcees DeMarcus Green and Hattie Webb of Z-1470 KZTG, and a crush of musicians who picked up where others left off.

Green, a great vocalist and event creator, also backs James Grear and Company and led the audience in praise and worship melodies.
Gregg Washington and the Voices of Praise from the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, helped open the evening, performing selections from our first CD in 14 years, featuring the radio single Praise Him.
A youthful quartet, simpled called The Butler Family offered solid vocals harkening back to the old dusty southern gospel spirituals.

Stellar Award Winners Excelsior, directed by Bobby Champion and the world famous, James Grear and Company closed the evening with heartfelt music and an impromptu testimony during which Grear told of a huge financial blessing enabling the ensemble to finish recording an earlier project. Excelsior always perfomrs in a big way. Last night was no exception and the group performed no less than a half dozen selections which had the audience on its feet throughout.

The surprise of the program, however, was little-known vocalist Lisa McCleod, the first lady of Restoration Ministries in Woodbury, MN. Following a brief introduction by her husband, Pastor Brian McCleod, the diminutive singer offered a stirring rendition of Donnie McClurkin s, Stand, to praise shouts from the audience.
Others in attendance included the host pastor, the Reverand Jerry McAfee, Evangelist Ruth Miller, Sheila Charles, daughter of the late Ray Charles and remnants of several gospel artists in the Twin Cities area.

Proceeds from the event will go toward helping to sponsor emerging ministries on Z-1470 KZTG Totally Gospel Radio.
The Clipse and Papoose are scheduled to perform at the 10th annual Justo Mixtape Awards which are scheduled for December 7th at the Apollo Theater in New York City.
Justo Faison, who founded the award show in 1995 to recognize the mixtape community, died in a car accident in Virginia in May 2005.

Past winners include DJ Kay Slay, DJ Clue, Lloyd Banks, and Papoose.
In related news, the Clipse will release their new album, Hell Hath No Fury, on November 28th. The latest single from the project is What It Do (Wamp, Wamp) featuring Slim Thug.

Jay-Z and Jamie Foxx are among the artists who have joined the lineup for this year s American Music Awards, set to air live November 21st on ABC. Also new to the bill are Akon, John Mayer, Snoop Dogg, Lionel Richie and Barry Manilow.

Busta Rhymes is signed to Dr.

Dre s Aftermath label, current home to 50 Cent and former recording home of The Game since the rapper s move to Geffen Records. While many close to 50 Cent have decided to steer clear of The Game s latest project, Busta Rhymes is featured on the album s title track, Doctor s Advocate.
Rhymes was recently asked if he was afraid that 50 Cent may take exception to his working with The Game.

Rhymes told SOHH.com, I do what I want. Number one, I m a grown man.

Number two, I don t got issues with other people. And number three, Busta Rhymes been around longer than all of these dudes that got issues with each other. So at the end of the day, I like to mediate situations, trying to bring dudes together and make them chill out.

If that don t work, I continue to stay focused on what I gotta do. And ultimately as long as nobody interrupts that, it s cool.
Rhymes added, I respect everybody on my team.

I m on Aftermath, so everybody that s affiliated with that camp is family to me and I m family to them. So as long as everybody know to just do what they gotta do, stay focused, we gon get through whatever the discrepancies are. It s part of that family, brotherly love.

Sometimes, the love is tougher than others.
In the past 50 Cent went after Fat Joe and Jadakiss for collaborating with his enemy, Ja Rule.
The Game s new album is in stores now.

The Doctor s Advocate is expected to debut at the top of the charts next week.
OutKast s Big Boi is working on a solo album which he plans to release next year. The rapper told MTV.

com, You re going to get something from every genre, every funk, beat, loop, horn, whistle. We got it all on the record. I got maybe 35 beats already done for it now, so I m just diving in and trying to carve out the pie with the vocals.

Big Boi is also currently shooting a new movie, titled Who s Your Caddy?, with Cedric the Entertainer, Faizon Love, Andy Milonakis and Finesse Mitchell. The rapper, who starred in Idlewild and ATL, explained, It s about a music mogul who tries to play golf in this exclusive golf community.

I go inside this country club and buy this huge house, and the 17th hole just happens to be on my property, so they got to let me in. There s a lot of antics with them trying to get me [kicked] out and things like that. It s seriously funny.

Big Boi also shared his thoughts on the disappointing sales of OutKast s latest album, Idlewild. The album has sold approximately 500,000 copies since it was released in August. The rapper said, The thing that people don t know is that we were switched over to a new record label, going from Arista to Jive.

And Jive, they put their best foot forward, but I don t think they really understand our music and know how to work our music. We re still doing what we did 13 years ago. If you listen to the Idlewild album, the quality of music is there.

Everything is there. It s just a new system and trying to get used to things. But hey, we got songs for days.

The Idlewild DVD hits stores on December 5th.
Big Boi plans to release albums by Konkrete and Janelle Monae in the coming months on his Purple Ribbon label.
The Wu-Tang Clan and Ol Dirty Bastard s Brooklyn Zu crew held a memorial for the rapper on Wednesday night (November 15th) in honor of what would have been Ol Dirty Bastard s 38th birthday (November 13th).

Allhiphop.com reports that the event, which was held at the Canal Room in New York City, included performances by Inspectah Deck, Shyheim, Killarmy, Chi-King, W. Gleamz and UNI.

Method Man and the late rapper s mother, Cherry Jones, participated in a special tribute to Ol Dirty Bastard during the evening s festivities.
Ol Dirty Bastard, whose real name was Russell Jones, died from an accidental drug overdose in 2004.
In related news, the rapper s last album, A Son Unique, is scheduled to hit stores next year.

The album features guest appearances by RZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, Macy Gray, Missy Elliott, N.O.R.

E., Pharrell Williams, and Fame from M.O.

P.
Decatur, Georgia-based rapper Blak Jak will release his debut album, Place Your Bets, on December 5th on Universal Republic Records. The first single from the project is Bobbin My Head.

The project also features contributions from DJ Toomp, Don Cannon, and T Pain.
When I talked to the 23 year-old rapper, he shared how got his start by appearing on Lil Jon The Eastside Boyz King of Crunk album. The rapper explained: Well my first project, was I was like 17, 18.

I did the Kings Of Crunk album with Lil Jon. That was my first official professional project, you know what I m sayin ?
Blak Jak added: You know it was bittersweet, you know what I m sayin ?

I got a chance to get on the album but you know I didn t get no accolades or nothing like that, you know what I m sayin ? So you know but I got a chance to be around a major studio and some major guys, you know what I m sayin ?
STEVIE WONDER, JOHNNY GILL, ANGIE STONE TO SING IN HONOR OF GERALD LEVERT
Gerald Levert s Celebration Of Life program tomorrow in Cleveland is expected to draw a number of the late singer s colleagues from the entertainment world to pay musical tributes.

Chief among them will be Stevie Wonder, his LSG-mate Johnny Gill, and Angie Stone. Also scheduled to perform is his younger brother Sean, who recorded with Gerald in the group Levert and also released his own solo project.
Levert passed away last Friday, November 10th.

While initial reports said he suffered a heart attack, preliminary autopsy results revealed that the 40-year- old singer did have mild to moderate heart disease that may have led to his demise. Complete autopsy results will be available within eight weeks time, according to Billboard.
Levert had recently completed a brand-new album that was due in February.

He had also finished work on a book that he co-authored with his father, O Jays singer Eddie Levert, and writer Lyah LeFlore, to be titled I Got Your Back. The book is reportedly about the history and careers of the musical Levert family.
Michael Jackson, who had escaped to Bahrain following his acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005, is making moves to return to the spotlight.

Jackson performed at the World Music Awards in London, which honored him with an award commemorating the 25th anniversary of his mega-hit 1982 album Thriller. The 48-year-old eccentric superstar did not perform the title track of the celebrated multi- platinum album as expected, instead crooning a brief version of We Are The World with a kid chorus, until he rushed off the stage prior to the song s completion.
There have been so many people who have loved me and stood by me.

I love all the fans from the bottom of my heart, Jackson said before flinging his jacket into the crowd and leaving the stage.
Jackson has made few appearances since his June 2005 acquittal, when he left his famous Neverland Ranch behind to travel in the middle East and Europe. Recently, he allowed Access Hollywood to film him as he worked on a new album at an Irish castle with producer will.

i.am. And earlier this year, he traveled to Tokyo to receive MTV Japan s Legend Award.

So if and when Jackson does return with a new album, will anyone care? Michael needs to come back strong and come back of today, not of yesterday, Elroy R.C.

Smith, program director of Chicago s WGCI 107.5, told AP. Would the world love to see this guy come back musically?

Absolutely. Because he s still one of the greatest performers of all time.
Other performers, including Akon, are lining up to work with him, and a number of other artists like Justin Timberlake, Usher, and Chris Brown have tried to recapture the Jackson magic.

I don t think he can do it like he did it the first time in the 80s Album sales just don t work like that anymore, Access Hollywood s Billy Bush told AP. But I think he can capture the fascination. Good music is good music.

And he s already proven that in that mind from that mind comes great, great music. So there s no question he can do it again.
Veteran star Lionel Richie is currently in the midst of his first national tour in six years to promote his new album Coming Home.

In addition to performing across the country, Richie is slated to head overseas to Europe after wrapping up domestic dates in California next week.
The artist was in his home state of Alabama this week to perform at a private radio show for contest winners in Montgomery, not far from where the Commodores were formed at the Tuskegee Institute in the 70s. According to AP, Richie told the crowd that a Commodores reunion tour was still possible.

It s just a matter of when we re going to do it because it s going to happen, he said. I d be surprised if it didn t.
When Coming Home was released by Island Def Jam in September, Richie told me that plans for a worldwide tour were already in the works.

Asked about when the tour would get underway, he replied: Listen, that s the problem now, they re trying to pack my bags and get me on the road today. The situation is, if I don t tour on this one I would be absolutely crazy. I m going to tour not once but twice around the world on this one.

Richie s new solo album debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and sold 75,000 copies in its first week.
Richie will perform tomorrow and Saturday, November 17th and 18th, at the Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton, Louisiana.

Whitney Houston s New Jersey mansion is being put up on the auction block because she is more than $1 million behind on the mortgage and taxes. The property is going to be sold at a sheriff s auction on January 4, the Daily Record of Parsippany reported. Houston s estate is comprised of two lots, one assessed at $889,300 and the other valued at more than $5.

6 million. The sale would be of the lot assessed at $889,300, the Daily Record reported. A secretary for Houston publicist Nancy Seltzer told the newspaper the property was not in foreclosure.

Houston could avoid having her property auctioned off if she reaches a settlement with the lender, Sheriff s Sgt. Steve Ackerman told The Star-Ledger.
Singer Rozonda Chilli Thomas, who has been known as the C in Atlanta group TLC, has reportedly signed a solo deal with singer Akon s Atlanta-based Konvict Muzik label.

The singer is working on a still-untitled solo debut that will be released in mid-2007 and distributed by Interscope.
Akon will collaborate as songwriter and producer on about half of Chilli s new material, with other tracks being helmed by Missy Elliott, the Black Eyed Peas will.i.

am and Timbaland.
This will be totally opposite from when she was with the multi-platinum group, Akon explained to Billboard. She s an incredible artist and I want people to reconnect with her.

Chilli, a founding member of multi-platinum-selling group TLC, has been keeping a low profile since the release of the trio s final album, 2002 s 3D. That set was released just after the death of group member Lisa Left Eye Lopes in a Honduran car accident.
Back in June 2003, Chilli and Tionne T-Boz Watkins performed in New York City at what was billed as the group s final show.

At the time, Chilli said that whatever happens with the group s music, she and T-Boz will always be together: We re always gonna be together. We re sisters. I mean, whether we re making music together, or cooking together, or raising our kids together, we will always be together.

Actor Chi McBride tends to play the heavy in a lot of his film and TV work but that s not the case with Let s Go To Prison. In it, the Boston Public principal and The Nine banker goes against type as a love-starved inmate trying to romance Will Arnett.

There s no actual man-on-man love in Let s Go To Prison but there are plenty of laughs from sight gags and implied naughty behavior. McBride told me that he chose to make Prison because it was relied on smart humor and was a departure from his dramatic tendencies: For me, you know, because I do a lot of dramatic work, if I were to choose a comedy, it would be something that would be a little more off the beaten path, and much more dark and a little twisted and subversive. That s the kind of stuff that I would go for if I were going to do a comedy.

McBride continues his laughing streak going on his next movie project, Brothers Solomon, a comedy about two inept brothers trying to find mates in time to give their dying father a grandchild. Brothers Solomon is currently in production.
McBride is also still working on The Nine, a drama about a group of bank robbery survivors.

The Nine airs Wednesdays at 10 pm e.s.t.

on ABC.

SINGER CUBA GOODING SR.

LENDS A HAND TO NEW HOME BUYERS
Legendary singer Cuba Gooding Sr., whose voice enlivened the 70s hits of soul trio the Main Ingredient, is now on a mission to help low income and first-time homebuyers realize the American dream of owning their own homes. The singer s Gooding Development Co.

has partnered with entrepreneur James T. Webb to renovate homes in blighted inner-cities and rural communities across the U.S.

and offer them to homebuyers at an affordable price.
Our goal is keep properties affordable so that inner-city families can share in the pride of owning their own homes, said Gooding in a statement. Because of redlining and high predatory interest rates, many families in inner-city America are denied the opportunity to have a house to call home.

We want to change that!
One of the first communities to benefit from the program will be Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where Webb has already completed some redevelopment projects. The new partnership also plans to provide employment for local workers.

Gooding sang such Main Ingredient classics as Everybody Plays The Fool and Just Don t Want To Be Lonely. He is father to Oscar winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. and actor Omar Gooding.
