The 2007 spring season at Stephens Auditorium in Ames features African music, renowned violinist Joshua Bell, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and the no-nonsense nun who makes the audience her classroom in "Late Night Catechism." Shows are scattered across the calendar from Jan. 20 to April 13.
Social events precede many of the shows, with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Most shows are at Stephens Auditorium, at the corner of Lincoln Way and Beach Avenue; a few are at Fisher Theater on the Iowa State campus. Jan.
20 - Turtle Island String Quartet, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.: The jazz quartet won a 2006 Grammy.

m.: Bell, named Billboard magazine's "Classical Artist of the Year," topped the charts with his best-selling album, "Voice of the Violin." Jan.
28 - Clifford the Big Red Dog, Live, 1 and 4 p.m. The characters come from Birdwell Island and the animated PBS Kids TV series.
Feb. 4 - Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, 2 p.m.
: The 60-member ensemble presents the authentic gypsy dance, music and costuming of Hungary. Feb. 16 - William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," 7:30 p.
m.: From the classic play about two star-crossed lovers by the Aquila Theatre Company. Feb.
18 - Alison Brown Quartet, 7:30 p.m.: Bluegrass group Alison Brown and her quartet (banjo, piano, bass, and drums) won a 2001 Grammy.
March 20 - Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," 7:30 p.m. The composer's most famous opera is a tale of love, betrayal and forgiveness.
Sung in Italian with English supertitles and live orchestra. March 23 - Soweto Gospel Choir, 7:30 p.m.
: The choir performs a powerful program of tribal, traditional and popular African gospel music enlivened by djembe drumming and vibrant costumes. March 28-April 1 - "Late Night Catechism," 7:30 p.m.
; 3 p.m. matinees on March 31 and April 1: Sister cajoles the audience to sit up straight, spit out their gum and remember their days in the classroom in this interactive comedy.
Performed in Fisher Theater April 13 - Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra, 7:30 p.m.: Violinist Kremer performs works by Beethoven, Korngold and Piazzolla with his 24-member ensemble of young musicians.
