We will play a cross section of music genres," Simelane said. When Fresh last performed in the country, he thrilled revellers and is again expected to do the same. Simelane invited music lovers to come and witness the spinners at their best.
Admission to the show is E60 and is payable at the entrance. 'Fresh House Flavas 1' arrived at the end of the 90s and kick-started a craze for house music compilations. The DJ steering the collection was then just getting started, with an afternoon show on what was shaping up to be a phenomenon - YFM radio station.
Half-a-decade later and little has changed. Except that thanks to the efforts of DJ Fresh and YFM, house music is bigger than ever, and CDs fronted by DJs are everywhere. But Thato 'Fresh' Sikwane has managed to stay one step ahead and is now one of the most sought-after DJs on the circuit.
Fresh's music and mike skills have been moved to an earlier slot on Gauteng's number one radio station, but he's still serving up the most relevant topics and the hottest tunes. But he was nearly lost to the world of broadcasting: after school he studied two years of law before jumping ship to journalism. DJ Fresh has seven house albums under his belt.
He has toured extensively in SA (alongside the likes of Lil Louis Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Armand Van Helden, and DJ Spreadlove) and internationally as guest DJ at Southport (2000), and at Pacha in Ibiza (2001). In March 2002, he formed part of a team of SA DJs who attended and performed at the MAW party at the Miami International DJ conference.
