Parents, DA settle charges in teen party

Westborough parents who were accused of supplying alcohol to a teen at a house party last summer have agreed to complete community service and probation in exchange for their cases being dismissed after one year.
Karl and Carolyn C. Bjork are each to do 100 hours of community service, serve probation for one year, attend a class on brain injuries, and pay court fees as part of a deal struck among prosecutors, police, and the Bjorks' defense lawyer, according to Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon.

The Bjorks were each charged with one count of furnishing alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 after a hearing at Westborough District Court in October.
Police said the Bjorks were home when their 18-year-old daughter hosted a party in August at their Gale Meadow Way home.
Officers went to the home after responding to a car accident.

Jason Arnold, then 18, had crashed his Pontiac into a Volvo on Haskell Street on his way home from the Bjorks' house. He told officers that he drank three beers at the party.
The Bjorks agreed to the pretrial resolution on Dec.

19, according to their lawyer, Mark E. Sullivan of Wellesley . The couple did not plead guilty.

The case will be dismissed on Dec. 19, 2007, as long as the Bjorks complete the terms of the arrangement and are not charged with a crime.
Sullivan said Carolyn Bjork is a registered nurse and her husband is president of a company.

He declined to name the company.
