This week we honor Jackie Robinson. The entry was written by Davidson M.

was born Jack Roosevelt Robinson in , the son of Jerry Robinson, a farmworker and sharecropper, and Mallie McGriff, a domestic worker. Six months after Robinson's birth, his father deserted the family.

Faced with severe financial difficulties, Robinson's mother moved her family to Pasadena, California, in pursuit of a better life.
