'Long Island, NY's From Autumn to Ashes has gained a reputation for being one of the more melodic bands in the East Coast hardcore scene. Some purists, however, will argue that From Autumn to Ashes (FATA for short) isn't hardcore in the true sense — that even though the band's alternative pop/rock contains hardcore and metalcore elements, FATA doesn't play pure, unadulterated, 100 percent hardcore.
'
If you've never heard From Autumn to Ashes, and you don't despise all hardcore/metal/emo, I recommend you turn up your volume and check out some of their videos and mp3s .

I do know there were a lot of bloggers in the house for the Movable Hype concert at Knitting Factory. (I know there were even more there, but those are just the ones..
." (I know there were even more there, but those are just the ones I stalk, I mean recognized.)
I must give major props to and for curating (is that a word?
) such an awesome line up of bands, AND for choosing the Knitting Factory, and not some Lower East Side dive. The Knitting Factory sound system makes all the difference, and the bands all sounded amazing. I actually missed the first one, but was very impressed with The Sons of Sound (or should I say ), Snowden and Asobi Seksu.
Gothamist has all the band and download links you need . I should go to bed now.
I'm up again, and others are posting about this event.

I'm a little late to the game on this one if you consider that Chad VanGaalen's album has been out for almost a year. On the other hand, Infiniheart has gotten very little press and is not even available at your finer .
If you consider yourself old school Chad, you may skip to the next post now. Everyone else may continue reading along.
'For 10 years Chad has been producing work in his bedroom, playing all the instruments, and has amassed hundreds of songs.
Catch Release / Flemish Eye has compiled 19 of these - including three new ones - as Chad's first CD release proper: Infiniheart.
Strains of The Flaming Lips, Neil Young, Modest Mouse and Beck run through this record, but these beautifully crafted songs really transcend any comparison; defined by a unique vision and lifted by Chad's incandescent vocals, these songs are moving, heartfelt, and strangely danceable.'

So as if Saturday night wasn't strange enough...
.
I left the the surreal entertainment that was to meet a friend (and his friend who was in from out of town), over at some local Tribeca bar.
The bar was non-descript, your typical local Tribeca bar.
What made the bar special was their odd choice of having a CD DJ at the end of the bar. There was barely enough room for him, and they could of just as well played mixed CDs. What made the DJ special was his choice of playing all indie music in a very non-indie venue.
In the 30 minutes we were there, he played Arcade Fire, Death Cab ( ), and even Xiu Xiu. (I forget what else)
Being the music nerd that I am, I had to name each song as it came on, and..
. so naturally the conversation turned to music. My friend asked if I had heard .
I replied that I hadn't, but that I believed that Fatboy just so happened to be playing this very night in a rave-like location somewhere in Manhattan. Long story short, we arrived at Drive In Studios on 18th St at 12:30 am - just in time to see Fatboy perform a 2 hour DJ set to a fair sized, very sweaty, and very appreciative crowd. Here are some pictures.
Do you remember ? They formed in 2000 with members of Engine Down, started to go places in 2004, and then suddenly broke up. The most memorable thing about them was the Portishead-like vocals of singer Maura Davis (Keeley Davis of Engine Down's sister).
Well, Maura is back. Her new project is called Bella Lea. The new band consists of herself, and some of the guys that started filling in for members of Denali towards the end of their existense.
That includes ex-members of Euphone and Joan of Arc.
Their first show is in Washington DC at the Black Cat on December 18th, and Maura is playing a solo show in Charlottesville, Virginia on November 17th. Nothing else announced yet.
The only page they've got right now is on MySpace where, conveniently, .

'they don't have the most original sound, but when you've got something that works, why change it? think rapture / moving units. this girl calls it "dancy-post-pre-neo-punk-rock," but i'm gonna go with "you have no choice but to dance" music.
'
Then on December 14th, one of Broken Social Scene's side projects plays Pianos. That would be . You may recall that they're .
Since two members of Broken Social Scene are in Raising the Fawn, they must not be playing at the same time as BSS, who's opening that night for the Pixies at Hammerstein.
Tickets are not on sale for either of these shows yet, but there are still for Raising the Fawn and Broken Social Scene at Bowery Ballroom. Get em' while you can.
The first night is sold out already.

and are coming to NYC together for a set of shows at Northsix ( ) and CBGB ( ) on December 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The Eagles of Death Metal feature Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age (as Baby Duck) on drums and Tim Vanhamel from the Belgian band Millionare on guitar. I caught their last show at Mercury Lounge, and it was a lot of fun.
Front man Jesse Hughes (The Devil) makes the show with his over-the-top act.
Walking Concert is the new project of Walter Schreifels. Walter's last three bands were Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, and Rival Schools.
That alone is reason to check out this show.
