I got to in time to see about two Priestess songs. They sounded pretty good. I used to be a big Gwar fan, but stopped going to see them after their shows started to not seem so good anymore (don't want to taint the memories). are playing some shows with , and they're psyched (as they should be).
We just got home from yet another U.S.
tour racking the grand total up to 110 shows in the 191 days of 2006! Wow is right! But we're about half done now this August we've got a week of shows with the reigning masters of the stage GWAR!
Which is awesome, 'cause we get to watch GWAR seven nights in a row! We're pretty happy about that over here in camp PRIESTESS.
Dates below.

.." Hello,
I recently read about cause co-motion calling it quits that was based on a myspace page of the band.
I am writing from CAUSE CO-MOTION! HQ to report that this myspace page and recently defunct cause co-motion have absolutely nothing to do with the CAUSE CO-MOTION! from brooklyn, NY.
The band in question is from westchester and appeared sometime in May 2006. To combat (or perhaps further) some of the confusion brooklyn's CAUSE CO-MOTION! has started a myspace page of their own,
I am also happy to announce that CAUSE CO-MOTION!
from Brooklyn, NY is not only alive and well but will be releasing a brand new 45rpm single on Thursday July 27 at the Knitting Factory where they will be supporting their What's Your Rupture? labelmates , over for the week from Sheffield, England.
All the best to you and your readers,
The Ballet have announced their first NYC show dates since .
Friday at in Broolyn is their "CD release show...
the CD is called 'Mattachine!' and it has 12 songs and some special guests (Ramesh, Linton from the Aislers Set, Rob from the Baskervilles). Ginger (our violinist) silkscreened the artwork herself.
" I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more recorded material. So far I just know the MP3s they have posted .
Saturday 9/2 @ Pete's Candy Store.
More info on the new CD below...
.
"We'll be selling the CD for $10 and there may be Ballet buttons and BOT t-shirts for sale too. For the time being, we're only selling the CD at shows, but hopefully we'll be doing some mail order shortly.
"
Not long before (He said he loves to listen to Todd's CD to relax on planes), Todd Barry himself was performing with Aziz Ansari, the Snapple lady, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and others farther uptown at the in Central Park. More pictures like the .
"Aziz Ansari told a great story about the most off the chain concert he's ever been to (R.
Kelly, natch)"

." So when exactly did get added to the last night? First I thought Jens went on at 10.
Then I saw he wasn't going on until 11. Then I realized Frida was added as opener, but it was too late - I caught just her last song and what she did on stage with Jens. Oh well.
Missing Frida's set aside, last night's show is now in stiff competition with for 'favorite show of the year'. It's been a good few days.
Unlike the band-enhanced show I'm expecting at Bowery Ballroom on , this show was just Jens completely solo - just he and his guitar (and microphone), plus the occasional instrument (harmonica, thumb piano) added in.
Also, in one of the coolest Mercury Lounge moves I've seen yet, there was a surprise two-person horn accompaniment from musicians (members of his band?) playing from the back of the room to finish off the song Julie which in turn finished off his pre-encore one-hour set. I was pretty close to the front, so I had no idea that was coming.
Jens sounds better live than on album even, and he knows how to keep an entire room of people captivated, silent, and hanging on his every word. There was lots of crowd participation - sing-alongs, whistling, jokes, and the passing-around of 1970's photographs Jens found under a rock. The photograph-passing started while Jens played a cover song in Japanese.
He asked us to please return them by the end of his set. I hope everyone did (unlike that biatch that kept ).
Touring partner, and , Frida Hynovonen joined him on stage for one song all in Finnish.
Jens told us he knows how to play all the instruments already, so to challenge himself he figured he'd start singing in other languages. The Finnish song was a mish-mash of expressions he already knew, like "I love you" and "Excuse me (or something like that)". Frida and Jens provided the translations before they actually sang the song.
Everyone laughed which was good because Jens later told us it makes him happy that we laugh at his songs - one of his many seemingly pre-meditated stories that so perfectly led into the next song. "A man walked into a bar..
."
I didn't take any pictures, so I hope and don't mind that I grabbed the above pics off Flickr. Tonight's show in Philly is (Get to it Philly people).
dc:title="Did Cause Co-Motion break up? Playing 2 shows? Both?

" , the popular Internet video sharing site, is being sued for copyright infringement, setting the stage for a courtroom battle over the interpretation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Considered only a matter of time by those following the dramatic rise of the viral video site, the lawsuit comes from an unexpected source. Rather than a major film, TV or music company, the lawsuit was filed by the Los Angeles journalist who filmed the beating or Reginald Denny during the 1992 LA riots.
Footage of the beating was posted to the site, which plaintiff Robert Tur, co-founder of the Los Angeles News Service, says was done without his consent and subsequently had been viewed more than 1,000 times.
He is asking for $150,000 for each time the video uploaded to the service, and an injunction against any additional use of his work." [ ]
have defied the whole bands-don't-have-time-to-mature-thanks-to-the-Internet thing. I ALL the way back in May of this year.
They seemed to have come out of nowhere with really great songs and a shiny . I got excited for , but wasn't expecting too much even though there were some "they're great live" rumors floating around.
Ends up, they WERE great live and they DID come out of nowhere.
They'd only played live nine or ten times before coming to NYC to play . I saw them on July 1, 2006 at Bowery Ballroom which someone told me was their 12th show. Someone else said 13th.
They went on (who went on before Matt Costa) to an impressively sized crowd for an opener-opener early on a Saturday night. Like pros they exuded stage presence and were all smiles. Their songs were tight.
You'd think they'd been doing this for a while; Actually they have. Ends up they planned it all this way - practicing and writing and practicing and making a CD and practicing - all before ever playing live. It worked.
New bands take note.
"One thing that was really refreshing about seeing them in concert was that they actually had fun on stage. They clearly love playing music, like each other, and were having a blast.
" [ ]
"Just want to give a gi-normous THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the NYC shows. New York City was tremendous and we had ridiculous fun on and off the stage." [ ]

I didn't create this playlist with in mind, but I did dedicate the show to him. Coincidentally it fit.
I was feeling especially morbid when I made this one that turned out to be one of my favorite playlists .
If you're wondering what I'm talking about, these are the songs I played on my last (every Tuesday night on Left of Center @ 10 PM EST). If you're wondering why I waited a whole week after the show aired to post this - it's because I'm really good at procrastinating certain things.
If you're wondering where the playlist from July 4th is - I took that week off. This is the playlist from July 11, 2006 (with some MP3s)..

I am getting married next week and for my video, the videographer asked us to for 5 songs for our DVD. Well I found this to be just as difficult as choosing who to invite to my wedding. I get to choose 3 of the 5 songs, my fiance the other 2.
If you or the readers can offer some suggestions that would be awesome. has some of the bands that I like along with genres.
So far, I would think a song that has a meaningful lyrics, good "slow-mo" music, and some energy would be fit.
Yet not many songs contain all these elements. I am fan of the artists on your website as you know, but I wonder if others can bring something to the table. Thanks a lot

" I saw play Central Park Summerstage in NYC Sunday afternoon (July 16, 2006). They're "a musical duo from Mali, composed of the couple Mariam Doumbia (vocals) and Amadou Bagayoko (guitar and vocals)". Also known as "the blind couple from Mali", "The duo produces music that mixes traditional Mali sound with rock guitars, Syrian violins, Cuban trumpets, Egyptian ney, Colombian trombones, Indian tablas and Dogon percussion.
All these elements put together have been referred to as 'Afro-blues'."
It was HOT out and I spent . Factors like that might ruin an outdoor Sunday afternoon concert for me, yet I'm pretty sure it was the most fun I've had at a show all year.
I'll probably consider it the best, or close to the best, show of 2006 (when the year is over...
.for those who like lists). It was the first time in recent history that I remember myself REALLY wishing the band wouldn't stop playing.
I left Central Park drenched in sweat and on a total adrenaline high. Amadou et Mariam please come back soon.
Thx for some of the quotes.
Thx for the picture - I took some, but I can't seem to get them off my seemingly-corrupted memory card ($@#$@#$). Too bad I missed .

David Byrne:: I'm going to do another concert version I think, at Carnegie Hall, next February. By then I'm hoping the theatrical version will be starting to get itself worked out as well.
Feburary @ Carnegie Hall is when where David is doing that includes , but he said "next February" so maybe that means a year from this February.

In other news, FPE TV has posted footage of a MASTODON pre-show warm-up. Watch it online at .
As previously reported, a brand new MASTODON track, entitled "Crystal Skull", has been posted online on the band's official . The song, which features guest vocals by Scott Kelly of NEUROSIS, will be included on the band's upcoming third album, "Blood Mountain", due on September 12 via the band's new label, Warner Bros. A limited edition seven-inch single containing "Crystal Skull" will be released through Relapse Records on August 8.
More information can be found at . The album's cover artwork was posted online on the band's official web site as an interactive puzzle, where the pieces must be dragged and dropped to create the cover. Check it out .
"Blood Mountain" was recorded with Seattle-based producer Matt Bayles (ISIS, HORSE THE BAND). The CD was mixed in New York by Rich Costey (AUDIOSLAVE, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE). Other songtitles set to appear on the follow-up to 2004's "Leviathan" include "Circle of Cysquatch", "Hunters of the Sky", "The Sleeping Giant", "Bladecatcher", "The Colony of Birchmen", "Pendulous Skin", "The Siberian Divide", "Capillarian Crest", "Hand of Stone", "The Wolf Is Loose" and "This Mortal Soil".
In a recent interview with MTV.com, drummer Bränn Dailor said about the upcoming CD, "It's hard to be inside something and talk to people about it. And it's kind of a cliché that the people in the band think that what they're working on at the moment is the best stuff they've ever done.
But I guess that's the way that we feel. It's just more intense, more — I mean I like everything we've ever done. But at the moment, I'm really digging on this stuff.
It's hard for me to put into words what's different about it. It's just better."

" "This book kicked my ass. I have known Bloodclot (aka John Joseph) for many years. We know each other from around the NYC hardcore/punk scene.
He was always cool with me but until I read this book, his autobiography, I had no idea about his background, about how he grew up. As I read the first few chapters, tears welled up in my eyes. A lot of people talk about coming from the streets, when Bloodclot says it, the shit is real.
I have tremendous respect for John, all that he¹s endured, and who he has become and I would recommend this book to anyone in a heartbeat.
So if you want to remember what NYC was like in the 70's and 80's, if you are interested in selling fake acid at Madison Square Garden, or dressing up like Santa Clause in a wheelchair to hustle money for the Hari Krishnas, or for that matter, if you are just interested in some of the best of the 8 billion stories that NYC has to offer, put a read on this.

I was just , so I watched Scissor Sisters for a while, ran to the Stillwell stage to catch four Stars songs (just the fix I needed), then back to Scissor Sisters just in time to hear the crowd roaring. I thought maybe Elton John took the stage, but actually the applause was for the power coming back on. Ends up I only missed about 2 Scissor Sisters songs due to technical difficulties.
Thank you technical difficulties.
More to come. Talk about it in the comments.
