" Mr. Brownstone Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Guns N' Roses Satanicide are three bands I hold dear to my heart. Ends up they're more related that you might imagine (sort of).

It starts with , "the world's greatest GnR tribute" band. "How do they look? Like Axl, Duff, Izzy, Slash and Steven Adler—20 years ago.

How do they sound? Tighter than a 13-year-old groupie. The vibe?

Hormonal—not a dry panty in the house." [ ]
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah A peak at reveals a list of "bands featuring members of Mr. Brownstone.

" Two in particular caught my eye: Heather.
Given the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's been getting, I could have titled this post, "Sean Greenhalgh from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah plays Axl Rose in Guns N' Roses cover band," BUT to me there's more to the story.
Satanicide are "some dudes from NYC that play some fuckin’ rock n’roll!

!!" More importantly, Heather "is a new musical project from the members of ," and Satanicide kicks serious ass.

SO, Satanicide + CYHSY + some other dudes = Mr. Brownstone = Guns n' Roses. And there you have it.

Did I mention that Hair Supply is a Heavy Metal Air Supply cover band featuring members of Satanicide? .

For the Records was at earlier this week in Toronto. Chromewaves . Who was at the Apostle of Hustle show at Mercury Lounge?

I heeard Dr. Dog stole the show (the same Dr. Dog playing ).

Looking forward to Broken Social Scene with Dinosaur Jr Stars with Death Cab/Decemberists @ this summer...

On July 4th, 2005, NYC gave us a free , (Pavement), concert in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.
By the time I got there, Malkmus was half way through his set (he played second). The line was huge.

You could hear outside the gated area, but people were crammed into every available spot. Even when headliner Yo La Tengo finished their fourth song, the line to get strip searched and OK'd for entry was still massive. After listening for a bit from across the street, and taking pictures of a turkey that was chillin' in a tree near the entrance, I took off.

I had a rooftop to get to anyway.

On Wednesday, July 20th, SOUTHPAW along with JENYK.COM, MELODYNELSON.COM, and ASCAP bring you the 2 Year ANNIVERSARY OF VICIOUS, the premiere showcase for new music in New York the last two years.

This is undoubtedly THE show this summer for the great many of us who dig that precious moment in a bands career just before the rest of the world joins our party. A truly amazing lineup with SAINTS AND LOVES, CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH, DR.DOG, and DIRTY ON PURPOSE with special guest DJ's THE EX LOVERS (MISS MODERNAGE AND ULTRAGRRRL).

Wednesday July 20 @ Southpaw in Park Slope, Brooklyn
special guest DJ's - The reunion of The Ex-Lovers - Ultragrrrl and Ms. Modernage!
In 2003, I became more involved with Southpaw.

One day, After tiring of going through countless demos, I started looking on the Internet for ways to find out more about what was going on locally. It just so happened that at this time the music scene in New York really started to become informed by the music blogger sensation. Jenyk.

com, a site run by Jasper Coolidge was the first site I checked out. It was filled with amazing photos and exuberant reviews of what I agreed with were great bands that I had seen and heard at the ‘Paw or though their demos. From there I got linked to Melody Nelson (Jaspers partner in VICIOUS), as well as JINNERS, and ULTRAGRRL.

These sites were run by truly passionate music fans like myself. These were folks that without meeting or really knowing them, I felt a kinship with based on our obsession with music. It was the start of an exciting time to be involved in the local music scene.

For the first time since the late seventies a real underground scene started to take place in New York, and as a fellow certifiable music geek, I felt honored to be on the peripheral of it all.
Via the music bloggers bands like Stellastarr**, Interpol, Ambulance Ltd, Dirty On Purpose, TV On the Radio, and more recently the super super hot Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, as well as a host of others were introduced to an audience that in the coming months would eventually devour the limitless buffet of amazing music that was coming from New York and Brooklyn. It didn't take long for New York and Brooklyn to become the real home of the best new ear candy in the world.

As the assistant booker at Southpaw, I became enamored of the VICIOUS nights that Jasper and Melody were doing at Sin-E (the night has since moved to Rothko), and was able to book some great bands after seeing them first there. I believe the VICIOUS nights are responsible for the development and cultivation of this "second wave," that started here in New York a few years back and shows no sign at all of low tide. Over the last year or so, I have become quite friendly with these two people and am ecstatic that this recent Brooklyn/Manhattan collaboration falls on my birthday so I will be able to celebrate with them their achievements.

All under the umbrella of the best music around today. Hot.
So if you are lucky to get tickets for this show before they sell out, you will be able to see why these two folks deserve a lot of credit for all that they've done for the music scene in New York.
