is six songs, three of which are covers of Siouxsie And The Banshees, the Velvet Underground and Frank Sinatra. One-third of the album is available for download .
Have you seen yet?
I had no idea when it that so many people . More importantly I forgot to mention that Devotchka pretty much performed the whole ..
..
Don't be fooled by the "various artists" credited as performing on this soundtrack: the CD actually has a rather uniform tone, and mercifully it's a lovely one.
Composer Mychael Danna is paired with the Denver band DeVotchKa, who perform his score and offer a few tunes of their own. Making excellent use of strings, tuba, and squeezebox, they set a mood that echoes the movie's warmly idiosyncratic one.
Remember ?
The new temporary venue's been open for weeks and I still haven't had the chance to check it out. Hopefully that will change by September 8th or 9th when Devotchka perform there two nights in a row. All tour dates below.

There is another remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Cheated Hearts". This one is done by Steven Bloodbath.
The remix is strange, it's almost...
shall we say, industrial?? Not really, but the remix takes the song in a different direction.

Diplo has already done a remix of Teddybear's "Cobrastyle". Someone's quick. [ ]

Well, there's another one. [ ] (At bottom of page)
Since this is basically turning into a remix post, I might as well top it off with a Tapes 'n Tapes remix. You heard me right the remix is done by the one and only Black Eyes.

New album = The Crane's Wife - out 10/3 on Capitol Records.
After listening to it a few times - my initial reaction is that it's definitely a Decemberists (who I love) album. There's at least one song I really like that I recognize from their live shows, and I love the duet with Laura Veirs. Other than that all I can say for now is that I need to listen more to see where I think it ranks next to the older albums.
Stereogum on the other hand .
Another album I've been listening to is the new Ratatat, which, when I first wrote up my thoughts about it Sunday night, I said it was "instantly enjoyable accessible". When I finally on Tuesday I threw "danceable" in there last-minute.
I take it back. It's more laid back tripping-swimming-under-water-though-occasionally-head-banging- -trippy-background-music-like than danceable - well, certain parts can get you moving.

Since any news is good news, here's the new album press release:
Drag City is set to release the new album from Joanna Newsom, Ys (pronounced ‘eees’), available nationwide on November 14, 2006. It’s been two-and-a-half years since Joanna’s Drag City debut, The Milk-Eyed Mender, captured the hearts of fans and critics with its lilting harp and vocal majesty. On Ys, Joanna has recorded five (yup, 5!
) songs clocking in at fifty-five minutes. The album was recorded with Steve Albini, mixed with Jim O’Rourke, and features orchestral arrangements from the legendary Van Dyke Parks.
On Ys, you will hear a dream collaboration between Joanna’s voice, her harp, and a full orchestra.
The album is a ride that ebbs and flows in a scrumptious cacophony of layers and drama. The wide-screened beauty of Ys is due to, among other things, the all-analog production mixed to tape and mastered at Abby Road.
For the uninitiated, The Milk-Eyed Mender was voted in the top 20 albums of the year in the 2004 Village Voice “Pazz and Jop” poll.
Critics far and wide praised her unusual and superior talents. Live, Joanna brings passion and drama to the stage, performing with epic spirit.
CMJ is not the only festival that announced the this week.
happens October 4-8, 2006 in (duh) Montreal, and they've got Joanna Newsom, Vashti Bunyan, Land of Talk, Sunset Rubdown, and more...
Dear pop music lovers,
What a wild roller coaster of a ride we’re all getting ready for! This year’s festival is going to be exceptionally magnificent. We are re-invigorating indie music beyond clichés and car commercial soundtracks.
We are showing the world what a festival can be; what a group of young people can do with imagination, hard work and vision.
This year we are pleased to work with the Future of Music Coalition (FMC) and McGill University to present the FMC’s 6th annual Policy Summit. We will also have our Film POP festival, our Puces POP arts and crafts fair, and an assortment of art shows and special events entitled Art POP.
Our fifth edition will introduce the world to future stars, forgotten heroes and an assortment of freaks, who will come together for what people are starting to call “the greatest event on earth.” We will all share moments of sublime beauty, knee-slapping good times and, of course, some crazy misadventures we’ll only remember in our dreams.
POP Montreal is very pleased to announce our initial confirmation list.
This group of artists represents a wide range of styles and genres and each and every one of them has a personal connection to Montreal, and the amazing group of people that help make this festival possible. Some of the highlights include: Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, the 75 year old American troubador and living link between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan; Joanna Newsom the Drag City psych-folk harp diva who will make her Canadian debut; Gary Wilson a mythical purveyor of new wave rock and adolescent angst pop; Edu K, the Brazilian pioneer of Baile Funk and booty shaking good Spank Rock, the first utopian, multi-ethnic, underground, conscious booty-bass hip hop act; Vashti Bunyan, the Scottish songstress, who’s ethereal voice has been a major influence on such artists as Devendra Banhart and The Animal Collective; Keith Fullerton Whiteman a composer/performer obsessed with electronic music, from its mid-century origins in Europe through its contemporary worldwide incarnation as "digital music"; Tapes n’ Tapes, who’s bewildering indie rock might be the best thing to come out of Minneapolis since Husker Du; the left field psychosurgical aural distortion of Kool Keith’s Dr. Octagon; and The Mighty Sparrow himself, who’s title, “The King of Calypso,” pretty much sums it all up.
We also have a whole lot more, including a very special organ performance by Gonzales at St. Jean Baptise Catholic Church. This will be the opening show of the festival and will also feature the Montreal premiere of Captain Beefheart and Gods Monsters’ guitarist Gary Lucas’ live soundtrack to the silent 1920 German Expressionist classic film The Golem.
So that’s just a taste. Take a look at our line-up, read about our different events and get your freakin’ tickets early ‘cause this is going to be some next level, off the chain nonsense.
Passes on sale Monday August 20th on Admission and participating local outlets!
And many more !

filmmaking initiatives with the National Film Board of Canada and Kino Montreal.
It promises to be Film Pop’s biggest and best year yet.

The most surprising fact of ' show (August 14, 2006) wasn't that of Gnarls Barkley/Goodie Mob fame came out to sing Crazy with them, but that the sound at the club was roughly 4.
3 times better than it was for . (the sound during Talib Kweli's set was still traditionally awful though).
The Roots are known as the best (and really only) band in Hip Hop.
Close to the release of their upcoming Game Theory album - their first and best in years - they once more showed us why they can claim that title. Aside from a little variety, the show nearly mirrored the Radio City show. They brought all that they are known for.
Black Thought's impeccable breath control and clarity - *coughTalibwatchandlearncough* - combined with a majestic flow makes up for his somewhat anonymous stage presence. Drummer ?uestlove commands the stage and directs the band through a slew of the group's hits - some fantastic new ones, and snippets of non-Roots classics.
My favorite part of the show was when they paid homage by segwaying through a slew of songs by Ol' Dirty Bastard, the Notorious B.I.G.
, Salt 'N Peppa, Grandmaster Flash, Wu Tang Clan and many more...
Still the best show in Hip Hop after all those years.
is blessed with a catalogue of amazing songs, yet cursed with the inability to do them justice live. He's improved from the last time I saw him at Radio City (also with the Roots), but the non-traditional rhyme schemes, and high number of words crammed into each sentence, still take their toll on stage.
Many words are dropped while others are just rapped under his breath. Where Black Thought manages to make a similarly complex and crammed flow completely understandable live, Talib Kweli mostly fails. As always, his amazing song Get By, produced by Kanye West and based around a Nina Simone sample, got the biggest audience reaction of the night - bigger even than Cee-lo's appearance.
I'm looking forward to Kweli's upcoming new release (Ear Drum) and watching him progress as a performer. He is one of Hip Hop's brightest hopes.

So, Sam, is it true: have Interpol signed to Interscope?
"Blatant rumor," Fogarino (Interpol's drummer) said.
With Interpol's contract with Matador "officially up", the band do plan to shop around their latest wares when the time is right. They've begun writing the follow-up to Antics, and Fogarino reports that the process is "moving right along where I think it should..
.we're all pretty much on fire about it". For now, however, the major-label-leap rumors milling about are just that, and Sam playfully entreats aspiring gossip-mongers to invent some of their own.
