BLABBERMOUTH.NET - SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Future Uncertain

He says, "I've wanted to make my solo record for years, but I just haven't had the time. For the last 11 years we've all been wedded to this band, and now we want to take a break. "I honestly don't know if SYSTEM OF A DOWN are over or no.

Maybe in a few years we'll want to make another album. It's impossible to tell right now. It'll be later down the line that we'll be able to tell what might happen.

" SYSTEM OF A DOWN is featured in a new documentary called "Screamers", about the history of genocide throughout the 20th century. The film premiered in Los Angeles on December 8 and will expand to other cities in January. SYSTEM OF A DOWN's last two albums, "Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize", were released in May and November 2005 respectively.

Both debuted on The Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 and have sold a combined total of three million copies in the U.S.

IP USA agencies lacked Intelligence, yet took 'the party' to the desert. Don't blame Rock bands for being as smart as some of us, blame the 2+ USA leaders, who themselves 'skipped' Vietnam service, have 0% of War experience, and 'cos they/relatives didn't have to fight this 1 either, just plunged head first in this 1.

Took years for majority of Americans to realize the waste of lives/$Billions/military resources/(not to mention BILLIONS of barrels of OIL that run our vehicles). What about thounsands of Iraqi 'civilians' who've died for NOTHING? I only talk about War this time 'cos people don't hate SOAD for their music, they hate them for being anti-War.

How American can you be when the Majority of us now are against you 'war pigs?' And no, not all Rock music fans are smart, so tell us what don't you know? You can't label us Majority 'un-American' any longer!

SOAD better stick around 'cos 'solo' music just don't cut it, unless you're a Guitar god/ hero. never cared where they come from, they are heavy original; not nu-metal to me. That's all folks, is it 3,000 yet?

is the creative process of the last two mini albums. darron pretty much wrote everything and is more of a solo record than a system record, and you can just tell by the way its been mixed. the guitarist's vocals are louder in the mix than the singers.

i always thought it was the singers job to you know, sing? espcially when one members sole duty in the band is to sing. also, the guitarist wrote most of the stuff which also means there was no creative input from anyone else, meaning fustration which leads to break up.

a typical end for a rock band, when one member thinks his writing alone is all that is needed even though the albums that made them famous are collaborative efforts. hello cocaine addict being told he doesnt need anyone else by his crack dealer. This band began as a refreshing outfit, yes they're debut was nu-metal, but it was good, had songs like 'war?

' and 'spiderwebs' which were very unusual and different. But then 'toxicity' came out and it was mostly pop-metal, I listened to it once and was like 'wtf?', listened again and that feeling lingered, there was just nothing there.

So they go away for four years and then out of nowhere have recorded not one abum, but two. As many have said, they could have fit on one cd, or a basic double album, instead it was put out seperately, many apologists claimed that this was a fair move to make the songs stand out and that it was still worth it, no one bothered to ask 'if you need to make the songs stand out by splitting them, then perhaps you need to write better songs?' and it showed.

Now in 2005 I went to the graspop festival (Iron Maiden and Dream Theater co-headline FTW!) and SOAD headlined the first night, due to the way the festival works no one else played at the same, and since I wanted to see Kreator at 2:30am, I thought I'd sit it out. And I noticed how not only was Daron completely f-ing drunk out of his head (he even screwed up the guitar intro to 'chop suey' one of the easiest things ever), but the other members were constantly not looking at him, not really engaging him.

So I think the poster who said it was mostly one person creation is right, but hey I have always said that to succeed in the business you need to have a focused unit who actually stick together. Those who will be there together on the pub tours are vital, but those who won't knife you in the back at arena stage are even more so! If you can get past the initial squeemishness of listening to this band (and come to appreciate the singer and guitarist's unique voices), you'll discover a group that writes inventive music, plays passionately, and is, thank god almighty, doing something different.

And they rock. And while I don't agree with over half of their politics and sometimes can't take the whiny singing, I'll always pick a band doing something new over the latest mallcore with its repetitive growls and breakdowns (you know, the "life is so hard, won't somebody love me, look at me I'm so unusual and ironic in my ecletic pop culture references, look at me don't I look the same as everyone else in my genre, look at me..

."). And yes, I do listen to more "true"-type metal (1349, Indian, Immolation, old Godflesh, Mortician).

And while I mostly play drums to stuff like Immortal, every now and then I just enjoy the simple pleasures of rocking out to SOAD. I think that SOAD, TOOL and OPETH are examples of intelligent bands which write songs that go far beyond the music and make you THINK. Every poster's view is respectable of course and if we all shared the same view it sould be a very boring world.

But despite what you or I say, if the're gonna spilt up or not is up to them and we cant do anything about it...

I'd just like to see them live...

Ive just realized, metal fans are pathetic...

im actually ashamed to be a metal head after reading this shit. If SOAD had released every album under a different name, everyone would love them..

.it seems when it comes to metal, anything after the first album is written off. "when nobody knew about them i was of course jamming them.

" Who gives a crap when you heard them? man, the ignorance is killing me. As far as i am concerned system have gotten far better over each album, that includes live.

though, i did enjoy watching Daron do whatever he wanted live, sure it was messy...

but far more interesting. With the double album, i also wondered why it couldnt all be on 1 cd, or a 2cd pack..

.what the band said made sense though, if they released 23 songs in 1, the short attention spans of today would not be able to handle it. I'm not too sure where this crap about SOAD being anti-capitalism comes from, i thought they were more about getting the message of the Armenian genocide recognized?

then again, what the fuck difference does it make to the music? I have noticed that too..

...

My personal opinion is that if it weren't for those bands you listed plus a few more then Metal might still be on hiatus...

SOAD are a great band and i don't care about politics as thats a loads of bollocks...

. See here's the problem: America is about freedom, right? Freedom of speech is one of those freedoms.

One's beliefs and opinions can be freely expressed and if people agree then all who agree can work towards change. That's what we call "collective action." If it wasn't for collective action many of the great freedoms you know today wouldn't exist.

If it wasn't for liberals, the country you live in would not exist as it did. The liberals of one century are the conservatives of the next. For you to say 'if you don't like it, leave" means that you're not interested in a free, open America.

You're interested in a homogenous mass of idiocy and a fascistic government that dictates your 'freedoms' to you and squelches all dissent. It's this kind of mentality that allows for governments to come to power and take away the freedoms that made America great. I was born here and I certainly disagree with many of the policies of the current administration, and administrations that have been in control for decades.

If me being civically engaged is unpatriotic and you sitting around insulting people on the internet for their political views instead of working towards real change that benefits all Americans is patriotic, then I kind of DO want to leave. If that's how things are, then it makes me afraid for the future of this country. Finally, Max Weber said (very famously, if you read) that capitalism is an "iron cage," (as translated by Parsons).

He was right, I think. If you are born, or live, in a capitalist society you have little choice but to play by the rules. It doesn't mean you have to agree with it.

If you know anything about American "Free Trade" and "Fair Market" policies, then you know that we don't really have a seriously open market capitalism going on. We have market controls because market controls WORK. Countries that have market controls have some of the best economies in the world (Norway and Sweden, for example).

So, in the case of SoaD, what do you expect them to do with their money? Even if they don't like capitalism they're super wealthy. There are plenty of other bands who don't like capitalism and rag against it that aren't wealthy.

Every once in a while a political, bordering-on-socialist band gets popular. Socialists aren't ascetics, they can be rich. And do you know what these guys DO with their money?

I think it's ridiculous that them being rich somehow makes them hypocritical. I mean, if that's the case, how could you ever believe that George Bush wanted to help the poor or the kids that were being 'left behind.' He's wealthy, that must mean he's a slit-throat capitalist.

Of course, in his case, we know that he is. But that's not how he presented himself. Anyway, your points are ridiculous and unfounded and I hope you both learn a lesson from this.

But you won't. You'll write me off as a commie or something. You'll call me a fag or misspell 'fuck' some more.

But I just needed to get this off my chest because you guys just make Americans look bad. I'm coming back to Blabbermouth.net in 2007 and somebody discusses two of the most influential sociologists, Max Weber and Talcott Parsons?

! Hell will freeze over this new year I guess. But discussing policy and politics on an academic level here on Blabbermouth means throwing pearls before swine.

Better volunteer your time elsewhere and don't post too extensive sophisticated political, philosophical or sociological entries on this rock/metal news site. Not many will appreciate your efforts around here anyway - so better pick your fights carefully. That's what I've learned over years on Blabbermouth.

And if you uneducated troglodytes think this sounds "elitist", tough shit. I've worked long and hard for my academic education, and I won't waste my precious time discussing politics on this site. At least not anymore.
