Paris Hilton in Another Video?
Before co-starring with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon in the notorious sex tape which went on to become an internet phenomenon, the blonde beauty played one of nine friends stranded in a Scottish manor house. But, according to People magazine, the film only spent one night at a movie theatre - during a London horror film festival in August 2002 - and received an extremely cold reception.
As a result, the movie is going to straight to video in America, where it will be available May 11.
Although Hilton only spends 10 minutes onscreen in the film, she takes centre stage on the video's packaging, which features the tagline, "Starring America's Hottest Socialite."
Aronofsky Directing Watchmen?
Aint It Cool News is reporting that director Darren Aronofsky has been signed to direct the film, based on a script by screenwriter David Hayter. Hayter had initially hoped to direct as well. [Source: Cinema Eye]

Donnie Darko Getting Theatrical Release
Newmarket Films, which released the film in 2001, is unveiling a director's cut at the Seattle Film Festival on May 29. It plans to release the film theatrically in Seattle before moving into other markets later in the summer. The new version will also have new visual effects and music.
"Even though I am proud of the theatrical version of the film, I've always felt that the story was somewhat compromised in order to come in under two hours," said "Darko" writer-director Richard Kelly. "With this version I feel like I've finally been able to complete the film."
"Darko" grossed just $515,545 at the domestic box office but has since gained a following on DVD, where it has grossed more than $10 million domestically.

Sissy Spacek Joins The Ring Sequel!
The Oscar-winning actress will step into The Ring 2, which stars Naomi Watts and Simon Baker and starts shooting in mid-May.
It's unclear who she will play in DreamWorks' ongoing tale of a mysterious videotape that proves fatal to viewers, because the Ehren Kruger script is being closely guarded; sources close to the project said the filmmakers want to keep a level of mystery around Spacek's character. The film will be directed by Hideo Nakata.

10 Minute Sneak Peek of The Godsend
Directed by Nick Hamm, the film stars Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Greg Kinnear as devoted parents who are willing to do anything to resurrect their beloved son, Adam, who was tragically killed in a freak accident.

Guillermo Prepping Two Hellboy DVD Versions
The first will be a two-disc set for the more casual fans of the film. Then, for the hard-core fans, there will be a longer version of the film (by about 20 minutes) as a three-disc special edition. There will be very candid and in-depth material on that more elaborate version, consistent with the kind of material that appeared on his Blade II DVD -- commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes and the like.
Look for the first version to possibly be released by Columbia TriStar in August, with the more elaborate version possibly arriving in December (exact dates are still TBD/TBA). [Source: ]
Tarantino Talks Kill Bill DVD Details
The director has been quoted as saying that he cut an alternate version of Kill Bill, Volume 1 for release in Japan, that will be released in the States eventually. This version contains both new footage and omissions.
He also plans to assemble a complete 4-hour version of both films together for art house theatrical screenings.
Look for a multi-disc "major special edition" of both films on DVD, which may include significant deleted scenes (including the original introduction to the character of Bill, who originally fought Michael Jai White, as well as the original scene at the wedding chapel). Tarantino is also reportedly considering releasing additional stand-alone supplemental discs after the main DVD release. [Source: The Digital Bits]
Chainsaw Remake Helmer Staying with Horror
The film is set beneath the streets of New York, where something is discovered that could have implications for the whole of humanity.
Details beyond that are still pretty sketchy, but it's a fair bet that there will be some running and some screaming.
While the whole thing looks as though it might bring back memories of the Mira Sorvino-starring Mimic, we're assuming for the sake of fairness that this is in fact something completely different from giant bugs on the New York subway system. [Source: Empire Magazine]
She Freak Getting Remake
Sullivan and Kobin recently penned another horror remake, 2001 Maniacs, starring Robert Englund, for GreeneStreet Films' genre arm Raw Nerve. Maniacs is in postproduction.
Originally produced by horrormeister David Friedman, the campy Freak offers a female twist on The Phantom of the Opera set amid a traveling rock 'n' roll carnival sideshow. Sullivan, who helmed Maniacs, is circling directorial duties on Freak. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

Baker and Watts are longtime friends, although reports say that Baker won his role through auditioning, not favoritism.

Two Versions of Exorcist Prequel Released?
Morgan Creek, the company supervising the production, was unhappy with the footage turned in by original director Paul Schrader, claiming the film was devoid of the pea soup vomit and graphic bloodletting that made the original Exorcist so horrifying.
Instead, Schrader reportedly offered up a creepy psychological thriller sans the gore.
Schrader and Morgan Creek eventually parted ways, citing "creative differences."
Looking for a more commercial scarefest, the producers hired writer Alexi Hawley to alter the script and director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea) to reshoot the film.
The budget was upped by $50 million, pushing the total production to nearly $100 million.
Harlin's version of Exorcist: The Beginning is now scheduled to hit theaters Aug. 20.
But given the extraordinarily high cost of making the picture and potentially thorny screen-credit issues, Morgan Creek execs have reportedly decided to salvage Schrader's version and release it alongside Harlin's retooled take on DVD.
"This is going to sound unbelievable," Morgan Creek honcho James Robinson told Variety regarding the idea. "But we made a movie--twice.
If you see the two movies, you wouldn't believe it's the same [cinematographer]."
No word whether Morgan Creek will have its distributor, Warner Bros., release both films in one package or separately.
In any case, Exorcist: The Beginning won't likely be released until the holiday shopping period or in early 2005.
Despite the directorial shuffle, the prequel's plot pretty much remains the same, focusing on Satan-battling priest Father Merrin as he journeys to post-World War II Africa and confronts Pazuzu, the demon that later inhabited Linda Blair (news)'s Regan in the first movie. (Screen legend Max von Sydow played the aging Merrin, who was killed by the devil in the 1973 original.
)
Harlin shot a completely new version of Exorcist: The Beginning, not retaining any of Schrader's footage. Harlin kept Stellan Skarsgrd as Merrin but recast several other key roles. He tapped Master and Commander's James D'Arcy for the role of Father Francis, originally played by Gabriel Mann, and replaced young actor Billy Crawford with Remy Sweeny.
Aside from the revolving-door directors and cast, Exorcist: The Beginning has been troubled from the beginning. The film was initially supposed to be directed by John Frankenheimer, but he died shortly before shooting began. As a result, Liam Neeson, who was originally supposed to play Merrin, had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, at which point producers brought in Schrader and Skarsgrd.
As for Schrader, whose credits include Cat People, he's just happy his version will be resurrected.
"I'm very proud of my film, and I think it deserves to be seen," he told Variety. "If I get the DVD, I can say 'God bless you Renny; may your film do well.
' "

Realms of Blood Premiere Date Set

"Realms" marks director Robert J.
Massetti's feature film debut after
the success of his DVD release Phobias which featured two short films he directed released through Sub Rosa Studios.
Realms takes place in an apartment during a power blackout as two roommates try to scare each other by telling spooky stories while they wait for the power to come back on. One of the stories called "The Cologne" was written for the film by B-Horror legend Tim Ritter (Truth or Dare, Creep).
"The film took almost a year and a half to complete and was shot all
over South Florida, " said director Robert J. Massetti. "We had just a wonderful
cast and crew that stuck with the project through thick and thin.
The film
is truly a testament to the undiscovered talent residing in the state of
Florida."
Realms was also accepted into the Tambay Film Festival in Tampa, Florida where it will be showing on April 24 at 10:30 p.m.
at the Regal Channelside Cinemas. "It was a real surprise to see a horror film being accepted into a main stream film festival, " said Robert J. Massetti.
"For a film festival to take a horror film seriously, we must be doing something right."
The film is scheduled to be released on DVD Aug. 31 through Sub Rosa Studios in New York.
DVD Player Skips Violence, Nudity, Swearing
The $79 unit features technology by ClearPlay and is manufactured by Thomson Inc. under its RCA brand.
RCA's player is the latest development in an ongoing legal battle between the Salt Lake City-based software company and Hollywood.

Seed of Chucky Teaser Hitting Theaters April 16
The movie recently went into production in Romania for an Oct. 29 release, so no footage will be included in the teaser, but Fango says they were told it’ll be a typically cheeky Chucky coming attraction.
The trailer is not attached to any specific movie coming out April 16, Rogue Pictures will mass-distribute it to theaters, which will show it at their individual discretion.
The assumption is that it will run with Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 2, which opens that day and targets the same audience. And although Rogue is associated with Universal, right now there are no plans to attach the teaser to that studio’s Van Helsing, opening May 7.

Korean Horror Flick Getting U.S. Remake

The project centers on a reporter who changes her cell phone number after publishing a controversial article that results in death threats.
But when a friend's daughter answers the new phone and exhibits increasingly bizarre behavior, the reporter begins to investigate a mysterious string of deaths that have haunted her phone number's previous owners.
The original Phone was one of the highest-grossing local films released in South Korea two years ago, with nearly 2 million people watching the film. The remake is being produced through Madonna's Maverick Films.

Hellboy Producers Considering Alan Moore's Watchmen?
"We're going to do 'The Watchmen,'" says producer Lloyd Levin. "It's about a group of superheroes who reunite to figure out who is trying to kill them off." No, it's not Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman.
"It's different characters, but it's really a unique story because it deals with the spiritual aspect of being a superhero," he says.
