For many a year now, I've been in thrall to classic progressive rock of the 1970s. My first experience of prog was when I was about 6, and for reasons I can't recall, I wanted to hear Genesis. I liked them more when I was about 10, especially 'Nursery Cryme', and also began to get into other bands like Yes and ELP, but I began to waver from the genre.
However, I re-listened to 'Trick Of The Tail' at about 15, and was stunned at how I'd overlooked the genre when I developed a genuine love of Genesis, Yes, Camel, ELP, Caravan, Rush, Zappa, Nektar, Uriah Heep et al. The best thing about prog rock is that every time you listen to it you'll hear something new, and there's never a limit to what prog bands can do. My other musical loves are heavy rock/metal, particularly Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Rainbow and many others.
I also am a huge Elvis fan, and can say to like almost every facet of his career, though I'm a fan of 50s rock in general and I absolutely love 60s UK psychedelia and pop. Folk music also appeals, particularly the 'folk rock' and 'acid folk' bands like Incredible String Band, Comus, Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Steeleye Span and Bert Jansch. To be honest, almost everything from the 60s and all rock from the 70s tickles my musical tastebuds.
.. I have time for any music apart from opera, rap or its sub-genres, disco and dance music, plus most of the often insipid indie bands of today.
.. Outside of music, I'm a big aficionado of 60s/70s cult UK TV such as 'The Avengers' (plus 'The New Avengers'), 'Jason King', 'Man In A Suitcase', 'Department S' and 'The Saint' (plus 'Return Of The Saint'), and 80s shows like 'Minder', 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' and 'Lovejoy'.
I also love classic action films by the likes of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone, plus Chinese films by the likes of John Woo.
