Hi, I'm a dutch music lover, always have been, always will be. I started listening obsesivly to music when I was about 10 years old, at first I listened to Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and other Rock Roll greats, untill I got a tape from Elton John, with some songs that blew me away at the time (Daniel, Your Song, I'm Still Standing, Nikita). After that I gradually grew into more progressive music, Queen, Supertramp, Yes, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and all assorted famous bands of the 70's, still mostly Classic Rock, but the change was about to come.
In (the Dutch equevalent of) Highschool, I got interested through posters in the classroom of my dutch-teacher in marillion, but at that time in the local record shop, Marillion was placed in the heavy-metal section, so it took me a year before I really gave it a try. That was 15 years ago. and the rest is history so they say.
For the next ten years I was satisfied with Marillion, and followed Fish's solo carreer, and tried to find similar bands, which I did with Pendragon, Arena, and some others, mostly through chance encounters. Only the last 5 years I've been searching more specifialy for progressive rock bands. I didn't have internet at the time, so the search was limited to music magazines, friends and biography's of bands.
With my connection to the internet, a whole new world opened up for me, In a short time I found bands like Gentle Giant, VDGG, IQ, and this website, which helped me to explore complete new unknown genres, like Canterbury, Zeuhl, RIO, Space Progressive and so forth. Currently I'm exploring Canterbury, which is more fun than I imagined at first, Zeuhl, which isn't as difficult to get into as I thought, and RIO, which I still don't really understand, but does have some good moments. One of the reasons I write reviews, is for myself, to try to understand why I like or dislike the album, it helps me focus on the music, and gives me more apreciation of the music.
Also I hope that others will be swayed to listen to the albums I like very much, and hear the same beauty in them as I do. I try to write objectivly about albums, I hope I succeed on some occasions, but a review is always a subjective opinion about how I perceive an album, so objectivity is not guaranteed. I hope you consider my reviews to be helpfull.
