Too Many Words SGA

You guys thought I disappeared again. Well, four finals in 4 days can do that. We ll pretend I was studying for all that time, and not doing things like hockey (5 games since Wednesday), lunch with Doran, Mike, and Matt Love at bd s Mongolian Barbecue on Sunday, or work for .

I also spent some time working on a new site for The Bureau which will debut on January 1, 2007. I could give you a sneak peek now, but really I think anticipation builds and people are more excited when they have to wait for something, even though there would be no harm in letting you see it now. I hate that.

I hate having to wait for something I m excited about now. So here s a .
Sorry for the lack of comments on news stories; most of the bitterness, cynicism, and sarcasm get used up talking to Wes during the day.

There was plenty to go around today though, as we discussed the Miss USA tragedy , the NCAA s feminism , and stupid stuff going on at the College Park Bars that gets complained about to the SGA . You guys thought I disappeared again. Well, four finals in 4 days can do that.

We ll pretend I was studying for all that time, and not doing things like hockey (5 games since Wednesday), lunch with Doran, Mike, and Matt Love at bd s Mongolian Barbecue on Sunday, or work for clients. I love that feeling.

Wes and I were walking up to the SGA Cabinet meeting tonight and we passed three guys and all we heard was so I won t be up in there no more because of a lack of resources up in this bitch!
I bet Wes $5 he couldn t say it during the meeting in a coherent sentence. I would literally pull out a $5 bill and hand it to him across the table.

We realized that that was what was missing from SGA meetings - something to keep it interesting. I think both he and I immediately accepted the idea because it combined the hilarious bets of and Nick with the subdued arrogance of - even while dealing with truly earth-shattering issues, the characters maintained a sense of cosmic humor and humility, focusing on and distracting themselves with mundane details in order to stay sane.
He didn t do it though.

I think he forgot.
Oh yeah, is pretty cool, too. is the feeling about 48 hours after you shave where the hair lays smooth with the grain but stands up and offers tiny, hook-like resistance against the grain.

I love that feeling.
I ve been neglecting the site for far too long. Three posts in a month is a sorry state, when just a couple months ago I was posting everyday (and sometimes twice a day, if I was in the mood).

Well, have no fear, loyal readers, for I m making the same promise I make every few months to get back into the game. For once, my lack of posting was not due to lethargy and apathy, but sincere business. Bullet points will follow, which will attempt to explain.

  • Read this post on . There are some important concepts.
  • rehearses three times a week.

That s 11 hours plus all the stuff I do outside of meetings. However, it s all worth it after a fantastic show like the one we had tonight. I say that after every show, but tonight was amazing - all the stand-ups were hilarious, and improv was punching like never before.

Do not miss your chance to see the hilarious sketch shows coming up on Dec. 6th and 7th, and another (all-new) stand-up and improv show on Dec. 8th.

Seriously, we re bringing the heat.

  • The actually decided to make demands on my time. How rude of them.

Nonetheless, that s enjoyable. Go vote or something.

  • is a four night a week affair, and while it s immensely enjoyable, having my knees taken out by a slide tackle is less enjoyable.

    I love coaching, though.

  • Tom and I have been keeping with the running, and we re up to 5 miles a day now. This is good.

  • is good. Contracts have been pouring in like contracts. Just a lot of them.

  • Buying a was the best non-Arrested Development purchase I have ever made.
  • I got to see family over Thanksgiving, which was amazing. Didn t take pictures like usual, but we had a blast nonetheless.

was the talk of the town. Apparently, promising your team you won t shave until their next win is not the best idea.
Patti, Patti, he looks like someone from our generation!

It was exactly one year ago that I started this blog with . I d done the blog thing before and never really enjoyed it past the novelty of a week or so. I am quite surprised this lasted as long as it did.

But aside from the occasional boring week (such as the last 10 days when I failed to post), I ve had a blast. Sad as it sounds, I ve met people through the site. I ve been (the real damn dead-tree version) .

I got out of it. Apparently, I kept my family, friends, and even bosses at work entertained with this on a regular basis, so I m pleased with that as well.
I ve been extremely busy lately with SGA stuff, Bureau stuff, and coaching hockey four nights a week.

But I ve decided to start writing again if it kills me. (Hopefully it won t, because that would be a disturbing coroner s report, and it would probably end up on Law Order: SVU which I would enjoy, except I d be dead and unable to watch it.)
Anyway, I ll credit , who I have talked to online for a while but finally met in person tonight for the first time, for my renewed interest in this endeavor.

Not only did he , he also started and the new . How s that for name-dropping? And the that showed up today just happens to be drawn by one .

Coincidence? Yes, actually. I didn t realize it would be there but James loved it.

In the last 24 hours I ve encountered all types of people on campus. The beginning of a new year and the resurgence of a new class of freshmen guarantees entertainment for months to come. Let s start with last night.

I got back from coaching hockey for the second night in a row and immediately headed down to play some SGA/The Bureau Midnight Baseball. It was the first game of the season and almost 40 people showed up. Despite a heavy advantage in numbers, the SGA s enjoyment of potables helped erase their edge.

The Bureau pulled out a clutch, come-from-behind 16-13 win that ended around 1:15 am. Wes, in classic fashion, was making a go at a number of people, launching shoes and all. Andrew F gave him a good run for the money though, participating in some similar antics.

Andy Heck, Alex Bronzo, and the rest of us watched in a mixture of horror, amusement, and confusion. Par for the course, good times for all.
Walking over to Kevin s today, I saw a kid running around, ducking behind buildings and pillars.

I assumed he was playing paintball, or Airsoft, or laser tag with his friends, and thought nothing more of it. Then I saw him doing some very complicated military-style hand signals. Vehemently signaling.

To no one. He was ducking behind the Health Center, tapping his head and rapidly motioning to his team members . That s also when I realized that he was holding his hands as if he was carrying a weapon, but was in fact, not.

    It
was about the same time that I noticed his black, oversized Star Trek Enterprise t-shirt, oversized jean shorts, and glasses. It was sometime in the middle of his tuck-and-roll manuever in the ambulance bay parking lot that I decided you couldn t scream freshman louder if you tried .
I was leaving Kevin s and getting on the bus when my phone rang.

    It was Tom Doran.
Hey man, I m just calling to tell you how money you are. You know that, right?

I do, Tom, but I appreciate it.
I was just going through my phonebook, asking myself Who needs me to call and remind them that they are money? Andy.

Again, I appreciate it. Let s hang out this weekend.
Alright man, talk to you later.

When I finally got back to my apartment, I decided to stop and see if my DVDs had been delivered. As I walked in, I thought Wouldn t it be funny if Tom were here? Nah, that was 10 minutes ago.

He s probably in his room by now.
Nope, he was downstairs, yelling at the CA. We had a good chat and he went to bed.

    I think.
Now, I am off with Sing and Jordan for some good eats and to see .
