Filed under: Arrived in LA to the Santa Ana winds (its hot here!!!
) and hit the ground running. Stopped in to see our gigantic storefront (open Friday at 5500 Hollywood Blvd.) and headed straight downtown to the MODERNICA warehouse (where we outfitted our space in cool white naugahyde furniture).
Then we raced to COSTCO (can you see it, me schlepping huge
shopping carts filled with enough bar mixers for three parties scheduled to start in an hour). Then it was off to the BEACH (where we met Tom Murrin for a tour of his show at Bergamot Station -- fantastic!).
Then fighting rush hour traffic we went on to Venice for a VERY CUTE little cocktail party/opening for our friend, photographer/filmmaker Cheryl Dunn, at a great funiture gallery called Elizabeth Paige Smith Atelier. The shop was as cute as the up-and-coming (Abbot Kinney neighborhood. There we met our customized M.
A.C ice cream truck for lipstick and mochi ice cream treats.
I had never seen EPSmith's furniture in person and I must admit I LOVED it.
(Check out her lamp above.) She makes very cool, but weighty lucite chairs, tables and lamps all filled with colored dust (kind of looks like talc powder) in really beautiful colors and simple geo shapes. EPS told us Kanye West just bought a table from her filled with white dust that she calls cocaine white.
Hung out there for a while then all of us Paper peeps got in our vehicles (Mr. Mickey, David, Carol Lee, Drew, Jacob, Karla and me) and hit the Pacific Coast Highway towards ZUMA beach where our most favorite clothing/lifestyle/art brand RVCA was throwing a little bash for us. Imagine six New York knuckleheads in rented cars driving to Zuma Beach in pitch dark looking for a beach pad owned by someone we'd never met.
WELL, when we arrived we almost died when we saw the company van a big sign on it that said RVCA+PAPER!!!
! It was shuttling the cutest kids weve seen in QUITE a while from the supermarket parking lot below to the swank 1950s indoor/outdoor art-filled pad of our host PASCAL STANSFIELD, a champion surfer who is sponsored by RVCA. RVCA is so amazing in that they don't just sponsor atheletes like other companies.
But they sponsor artists of all sorts including musicians. Their commander-in-chief, Pat Tenore, is an amazing man with a HUGE passion for talent. (PASCAL is the cutie in the baseball cap).
Eventually, we hit the road back to Hollywood for a midnight burger at our favorite watering hole, Magnolia on Sunset Blvd. Exhausting, but its really amazing to explore all these nooks and crannies in Los Angeles.
PS MICKEY JUST CALLED ME FROM BREAKFAST AND TOLD ME FRANK GEHRY WAS SITTING AT THE NEXT TABLE (its soooo la!
)
