Big games from McCoy, Campbell aren't enough Associated Press
MES, Iowa Iowa State surged early in the second half Saturday and went on to a 67-57 victory over the Minnesota women's basketball team.
Freshman Brittany McCoy led the Gophers (8-3) who were coming off a road victory at 25th-ranked Nebraska with a career-high 15 points, including 10 in the second half. Korinne Campbell posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and added four blocked shots.


The Cyclones (7-1) hit key free throws, sinking 11 of 14 in the last 5:37. Minnesota closed to within 59-53 on free throws by Emily Fox with 1:28 remaining. Minnesota couldn't get any closer as the Gophers missed shots and were forced to foul.


Iowa State's Rachel Pierson led the Cyclones with 14 points, including 12 in the first half.
Neither team shot well from the floor, Iowa State at 35.5 percent and Minnesota at 34.

No. 20 Michigan State 58, Hartford 45: Aisha Jefferson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Rene Haynes added nine points and six steals for the Spartans (7-1) in Auburn Hills, Mich.


Danielle Hood and Ikea Witt each scored 12 points for the Hawks (7-4), who shot just 23.3 percent from the field after halftime.
Neither team could find the range beyond the arc, with Hartford 1 for 18 from three-point range and Michigan State 0 for 12.


Victoria Lucas-Perry, the Spartans' leading scorer this season, was held to eight points. She was 2 for 11 from the field with five turnovers.

25 Nebraska 87, Michigan 47: Chelsea Aubry scored 18 points, and Cory Montgomery as Nebraska (7-2) opened an early lead and defeated visiting Michigan (6-5).
Aubry, a 6-foot-2 senior forward from Kitchener, Ontario, was 7 of 10 from the field, including 4 for 4 from three-point range. She also had four assists.


Nebraska hit five of its first six shots, including a three-pointer by Kelsey Griffin and three straight baskets by Aubry to take command.
Nebraska forced 15 Michigan turnovers in the first half, turning them into 17 points.
Janelle Cooper led the Wolverines with 13 points.


Illinois 73, Rhode Island 48: The Illini (8-2) won their fourth straight, and Lori Bjork scored 16 points and had a career-high seven assists. Safi Mojidi had 16 points for Rhode Island (1-9).
